Chinmaya Mission is a non-profit spiritual organization with over 50 years of dedicated service for positively influencing and uplifting the human spirit. Our motto is “to provide maximum happiness to maximum number of people for the maximum amount of time.” In that endeavor, we have been fortunate to find the universal support of people from all walks of life. After a modest beginning in a community near Mumbai, India, Chinmaya Mission now finds itself with over 300 centers spread over the world including 40 centers in the US.
We have been helping individuals in their spiritual quest and providing service in the Portland area for the last 12 years. Our attendance has multiplied and our activities have expanded thanks largely to the continued support and commitment of the community. To help our growth and vision for a center in Portland and to offer more opportunities to serve the community, we organized a Fund Raiser Dance event on April 4th Saturday 2009, connecting the various local dance schools.
I had the joy, privilege and gratitude to be part of an esteemed organization like Chinmaya Mission and a wonderful team of talented friends to work with. What we witnessed on April 4th was amazing grace from Pujya Gurudev and Pujya Guruji, and what a group of dedicated and devoted volunteers tied to an ideal working towards a noble cause can achieve. The line in our pledge that says we 'serve as an army courageous and disciplined' was validated on that day. Dear Friends, our journey has just begun!
The most rewarding thing, and the icing on the cake, was to see the inspired work of our junior CHYKS (Senior Bala Vihar children) throughout the program whether on the stage and off of it.
But I want to take moment to look back and thank you all for the 'Yagna' spirit we all brought in to making this event an astounding success and a memorable event!
Once again, I am looking forward to working with you all on behalf of Chinmaya Mission and it would be an honor and a pleasure to do something like this again! Please see the NrittaSandhya pictures, Program Brochure and the movie entitled Chinmaya Mission Portland, The Mission and The Vision for more details about how the event went. We will have the stats about the fundraiser available on our website, and DVDs will also be available for purchase soon.
Again, we sincerely appreciate your generosity and thank you for your continued support.

Chandra Nair
